Hilarious and poignant, Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha charts the triumphs, indignities, and bewilderment of a young boy and his world, a place full of warmth, cruelty, confusion and love.

"Gloriously triumphant...confirms Doyle as the best novelist of his generation."  - Nick Hornby, Literary Review

It is 1968. Patrick Clarke is ten. He loves Geronimo, the Three Stooges, and the smell of his hot water bottle. He can’t stand his little brother Sinbad. His best friend is Kevin, and their names are all over Barrytown, written with sticks in wet cement. They play football, lepers, and jump to the bottom of the sea. But why didn’t anyone help him when Charles Leavy had been trying to kill him? Paddy sees everything, but he understands less and less.

"It is 1968. Paddy Clarke is ten years old, breathless with discovery. He reads with a child's voraciousness, collecting facts the way adults collect grey hairs and parking tickets. Doyle captures the speech patterns of childhood brilliantly, the weird logic of the incessant questions, the non-sequiturs and the wonderments... Like all great comic writers, Roddy Doyle has become an explorer of the deepest places of the heart, of love and pain and loss. This is one of the most compelling novels I've read in ages, a triumph of style and perception."  -  Irish Times

Roddy Doyle is the author of 11 novels, a collection of stories, and Rory & Ita, a memoir of his parents. Doyle has written five books for children and several anthologies. He has also written for the stage. His plays include a co-adaption with Joe O’Byrne of his novel The Woman who Walked into Doors and he co-wrote with Bisi Adigun a new version of The Playboy of the Western World. He also wrote the screenplays for The Snapper, The Van, Family, When Brendan Met Trudy and co-wrote the screenplay for The Commitments.
